Thai-Me-Up
The Inspiration: Since graduating college, it became a tradition that I cooked a big dinner for all my Jewish friends on Christmas Eve. While my annual dinner party doesn’t always fall on X-mas eve anymore, it is always around the Holidays. This was my first dinner party that was photo-documented. While not all the dishes have finished photos, here are a few:
My Adaptation: In 2011, I really began to explore “Asian” flavors. So for this meal, everything had a “Thai” twist.
The Menu:
- Thai Coconut Tomato Soup served with Homemade Scallion Pancakes “Pad Thai” (My take on Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup)
- Homemade Shrimp & Pork Dumplings with a Ponzu Beurre Blanc
- Nobu’s Rock Shrimp Tempura with a Yuzu Spicy Mayo (No photos sadly)
Here are some photos:
Here I am making a Ponzu Beurre Blanc Sauce (To Serve with my Dumplings)
Making dumpling dough is pretty easy. Just water and Flour!
Rolling the dumplings were tricky at first, but once I hit 20 I was a master!
Beautiful Dumplings ready to be cooked!!
Thai Coconut Tomato Soup served with Homemade Scallion Pancakes “Pad Thai” (My take on Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup). The Scallion Pancakes were also easy, but get very smokey when you cook them, not ideal for a small NYC kitchen!!
